Wiley Family History
This unusual name recorded in the spellings of Willey, Wiley, Wyley, Wylie, and Wyly, is of English locational origin. It derives from the places so called in the counties of Cheshire, Herefordshire, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Devonshire and Surrey. The first five of these villages share the same meaning. This is from the Old English pre 7th "wilig", meaning "willow" and "leah", either a fenced clearing in a wood, or in some places a "water meadow". The village of "Willey" in Surrey derives its name from a different source. This is from "weoh", meaning a pagan temple, plus "leah", which in this case clearly means a clearing in a wood...Select Audience

Wiley
My last name is spelled WILY. As far as I've been able to research, this is the way it's always been spelled. Is this an Anglicized variant of WILEY?
P.S; I'm 66, and throughout my life, I've been a romantic, an artist, and have believed in my visions. I have a passion for freestanding stone ruins in an open land, and for Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. I have made sculptures similar to that resembling Stone Circles. I collect metal dinnerware by "Wilton". I have done all of this long before I researched my name's origin. I believe that I am of Romano/British origins.
Wiley
Thomas Wiley born possibly in Ulster or Belfast Ireland in 1741 served in the Dunsmore War. And was married to Jenny Sellards. She was captured by Indians and all their children murdered. She was able to escape and had more children with Thomas. Her daughter Mary Jane was my ggg grandmother.

Hey! Thomas Wiley is my 6th great-grandfather, by way of his and Jennyโs son William. According to my ancestry.com tree, he was born in 1750 in Ulster, served in the American Revolutionary War, and received a war pension. He died in 1810 in Johnson County and is buried there. Itโs nice to see someone who is also related to Thomas!
